Keeping Safe is integral to our curriculum at Wookey School. We address this topic throughout the year in a wide variety of contexts, supported by regular visitors into school. Recently our visitors have included speakers from the NSPCC, Somerset Road Safety, The Fire Service and Parliament.
We have signed up to the Somerset e-Pledge for Safer Internet Day 2019. This year the e-Pledge is GAMING and supporting families to create a GAMEPLAN.
Gaming is a part of many children's lives. It can be enjoyable, creative and can develop problem-solving and collaborative skills.
A gameplan is an agreement that families can use to help them game safely and positively. We have produced a gameplan template for parents to use at home, a covering letter from the school and a poster for the classroom.
We believe that it is vital our children are supported to become responsible digital citizens. In line with our school values we want our children to ENGAGE with the internet, use the Internet safely INDEPENDENTLY and treat people online with RESPECT.

In school we use the 'Active Bytes' scheme of work, produced by the Somerset eLIM Educational Technology Team. Click the image below for more information.
The eLIM team have recently completed a large scale study in Somerset, interviewing children with a focus on their wellbeing online. Here is a link to the videos made as a result of this project.
We have been asking the children of Wookey Primary the same questions as were asked in the study. Hearing the voices of our pupils has been very interesting and it has helped us think about next steps in our eSafety programme at school.
