When planning our curriculum we consider ways in which we can explicitly promote our core values of independence, engagement, respect and active learning. As well as teacher led input, careful thought is given to the planning of our 'enhanced provision' where children are empowered to lead their own learning and follow their own interests in class. Running through our curriculum are other core strands such as 'keeping safe', 'coding opportunities' and 'practical experiences/visits' which helps to create children who retain a lifelong love of learning.
In the early years and KS1 our phonics teaching is underpinned by the 'Read, Write Inc' scheme. More information about this scheme can be found by clicking on this link:
The teaching of SMSC (Social, Moral and Spiritual Education) and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is integrated into our curriculum at Wookey. We follow the PSHE association programme of study for PSHE education which can be found here and we follow the new guidelines for RSE education which can be found here.
Our curriculum is planned using 'milestones' from the Chris Quigley 'Essentials' Curriculum. Essentials is a simple to use Primary Curriculum which supports our drive to achieve the best possible outcomes for all children. To find out more about this curriculum please see the document below.
